Acknowledgments

This book would not have been possible without the help from the many people of Somerset that agreed to be interviewed. Their voices were invaluable, and their patience was never-ending. In addition to the interview subjects, I’d like to thank the residents of the town. I found myself living in Somerset for weeks at a time and I’d like to particularly thank the main subjects and those involved directly with the tragedy whom I may have uncovered old wounds and traumas with my questions.

I'd like to specifically thank Bob Schroeder for the many Saturday mornings he spent with me at the Somerset Public Library, the articles he steered me towards, and the paths he led me down.

A special shout-out to Ginger's Cafe downtown for letting me take up the corner booth for hours on end and letting me leech off the WiFi. I didn't know you could get an Americano that good in a place like this. Somerset was full of pleasant surprises, and Ginger’s was one of them.

Tina Phillips hired me years ago and remained my editor through the publishing of Farmaceuticals. She was kind enough to read an early draft of this book and provided her keen insight and recommendations.

Finally, I’d like to thank my wife, Haley, for putting me in the position to even write this book. Well before hearing your entire story, I was amazed by your strength and resiliency. Now, even more so. I love you and can’t wait to meet our daughter.
