Before using any fruits and vegetables, you should wash them with cool tap water. Even if you are going to peel them, you want to wash them to prevent dirt and bacteria from getting transferred to the peeler or knife and then onto the fruit or vegetable. Dry produce with a clean cloth or paper towel to reduce any present bacteria.
If you do your shopping with reusable grocery bags, you should regularly clean them. Canvas and cloth bags can be washed in the washing machine. Plastic reusable bags should be washed with hot, soapy water.
