Chapter Twenty-Two

Word and Spirit

His Word, His Spirit, and You

The Word of God reveals the person and work of the Holy Spirit a billion times better than I ever could. Remember, His voice flows from His presence. It is also wrapped in His presence. It is impossible to separate God’s Word, voice, and person. Let’s have a look at what the Scriptures have to say about this. In Exodus 3, the Bible provides a life-changing truth:

The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed. So Moses said, “I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up” When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am” Then He said, “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” He said also, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Then Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God (Exodus 3:2-6 NASB).

Notice in verse 4 that the voice of the Lord came from the midst of the bush (see Exod. 3:4). When you combine that truth with the words of Jesus in John 6, “My words are spirit…,” we experience a beautiful revelation (see John 6:63). His voice flows from Him and is full of Him. Think of it this way: To hear God, I must come to God, and His voice is wrapped in His Spirit. Once you discover this, you’ll never read the Scriptures the same way again! You won’t come to your Bible anymore. You will come to Jesus through your Bible. You’ll begin to look at every verse as a living moment in the Holy Spirit. The Bible was never meant to be merely read. Rather, it was intended to be seen, heard, felt, meditated on, and consumed. When you sit down and invite the Holy Spirit to teach you and lead you as you read the Scriptures, you will begin to experience His breath, which is His voice.

As my friend Eric Gilmour says, “His voice comes from His mouth, and His mouth is in His face.” Wow! To experience the Word of God is to sit before the face of Jesus.

Have you ever tried to speak without breathing? Unless there is the release of breath, we cannot make a sound. When God speaks in His Word, He releases His breath, the Holy Spirit!

The Bible says it is “out of the abundance of the heart [t h a t] the mouth speaks” (Matt. 12:34). This is amazing. Remember, even though Jesus said this to others, it also reveals to us how He works. More specifically, it gives us a beautiful picture of His internal workings. So, think of this for a moment: Whatever Jesus says is a revelation of His heart. I like to say it this way: “The Bible is God’s heart on paper.” Unlike us at times, Jesus doesn’t “just say things” and not mean what He says. He is pure truth. That means that His heart is on full display in the Word. What a privilege to see Him this way!

To love the Word of God is to love God’s voice, which is Spirit.
To love the Word of God is to love His face, from which the voice flows.
To love the Word of God is to love God’s breath, which is the Holy Spirit Himself.
To love the Word of God is to love His heart.

The other side of the coin is:

To not love the Word is to not love the voice of God, which is Spirit.
To not love the Spirit is to not love His face, from which the voice flows.
To not love the Word is to not love the breath of God, which is the Holy Spirit.
To not love the Word is to not love His heart.

The Holy Spirit in Scripture

As you read the pure truth of the Scriptures, I believe your heart and mind will open into a fresh revelation of the beauty and power of the Spirit. Encounter belongs to you, as you read these amazing verses from God’s Word.1 Let’s have a look at what the Bible has to say about the Holy Spirit. My prayer is that this chapter will be a resource for you and your family as you walk in deep friendship with the Holy Spirit.

Spirit of the Father

For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you (Matthew 10:20).

For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure ( John 3:34).

When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me ( John 15:26).

Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear (Acts 2:33).

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God (Romans 8:14).

For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15).

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God (Romans 8:16).

And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body (Romans 8:23).

Who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge (2 Corinthians 1:22).

Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge (2 Corinthians 5:5).

For through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father (Ephesians 2:18).

Spirit of Jesus

And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last (Luke 23:46).

When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me ( John 15:26).

And after they came to Mysia, they were trying to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them (Acts 16:7).

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3).

For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:19).

By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God (1 John 4:2).

Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (Revelation 19:10).

God

The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters (Genesis 1:2).

Then Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, in whom is a divine spirit? (Genesis 41:38).

Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years” (Genesis 6:3).

If He should determine to do so, if He should gather to Himself His spirit and His breath ( Job 34:14).

The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life ( Job 33:4).

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him… (Isaiah 11:2).

Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has informed Him? (Isaiah 40:13).

And now the Lord God has sent Me, and His Spirit (Isaiah 48:16).

O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, since I know that a spirit of the holy gods is in you and no mystery baffles you, tell me the visions of my dream which I have seen, along with its interpretation (Daniel 4:9).

This is the dream which I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. Now you, Belteshazzar, tell me its interpretation, inasmuch as none of the wise men of my kingdom is able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for a spirit of the holy gods is in you (Daniel 4:18).

There is a man in your kingdom in whom is a spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father, illumination, insight and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him. And King Nebuchadnezzar, your father, your father the king, appointed him chief of the magicians, conjurers, Chaldeans and diviners (Daniel 5:11).

Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6).

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil ( M at t hew 4:1).

Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven ( Mat t he w 12:31).

Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come (Matthew 12:32).

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35).

God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24).

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?” (Ac t s 5: 3).

Then Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well” (Acts 5:9).

And after they came to Mysia, they were trying to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them (Acts 16:7).

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death (Romans 8:2).

For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God (1 Corinthians 2:10).

For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:11).

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God (1 Corinthians 2:12).

Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:11).

But in my opinion she is happier if she remains as she is; and I think that I also have the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 7:40).

So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45).

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17). But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18).

If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit (Galatians 5:25).

So, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you (1 Thessalonians 4:8).

There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling (Ephesians 4:4).

For we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh (Philippians 3:3).

By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, was vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory (1 Timothy 3:16).

By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God (1 John 4:2).

Your Teacher

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him…the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2).

And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ (Luke 2:26).

For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say (Luke 12:12).

But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons (1 Timothy 4:1).

Guide

And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law (Luke 2:27).

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness (Luke 4:1).

Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot” (Acts 8:29).

The Spirit told me to go with them without misgivings. These six brethren also went with me and we entered the man’s house (Acts 11:12).

For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials (Acts 15:28).

They passed through the Phrygian and Galatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia (Acts 16:6).

Except that the Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me (Acts 20:23).

After looking up the disciples, we stayed there seven days; and they kept telling Paul through the Spirit not to set foot in Jerusalem (Acts 21:4).

And coming to us, he took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands, and said, “This is what the Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles’” (Ac ts 21:11).

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God (Romans 8:14).

Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, “ Today if you hear His voice” (Hebrews 3:7).

Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation

1 have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in under standing, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship (Exodus 31:3).

You shall speak to all the skillful persons whom I have endowed with the spirit of wisdom, that they make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister as priest to Me (Exodus 2 8:3).

And He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding and in knowledge and in all craftsmanship (Exodus 35:31).

Now Joshua the son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses (Deuteronomy 34:9).

You gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, Your manna You did not withhold from their mouth, and You gave them water for their thirst (Nehemiah 9:20).

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2).

This was because an extraordinary spirit, knowledge and insight, interpretation of dreams, explanation of enigmas and solving of difficult problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Let Daniel now be summoned and he will declare the interpretation (Daniel 5:12).

Now I have heard about you that a spirit of the gods is in you, and that illumination, insight and extraordinary wisdom have been found in you (Daniel 5:14).

Then this Daniel began distinguishing himself among the commissioners and satraps because he possessed an extraordinary spirit, and the king planned to appoint him over the entire kingdom (Daniel 6:3).

Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task (Acts 6:3).

Which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words (1 Corinthians 2:13).

But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised (1 Corinthians 2:14).

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him (Ephesians 1:17).

But they were unable to cope with the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking (Acts 6:10).

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8).

For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries (1 Corinthians 14:2).

Spirit of Life

Of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died (Genesis 7:22).

The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life ( Job 33:4).

Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me (Psalm 51:11).

You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the ground (Psalm 104:30).

Thus says God the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it (Isaiah 42:5).

Wherever the spirit was about to go, they would go in that direction. And the wheels rose close beside them; for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels (Ezekiel 1:20).

Whenever those went, these went; and whenever those stood still, these stood still. And whenever those rose from the earth, the wheels rose close beside them; for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels (Ezekiel 1: 21).

When the cherubim stood still, the wheels would stand still; and when they rose up, the wheels would rise with them, for the spirit of the living beings was in them (Ezekiel 10:17).

And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 11:19).

Cast away from you all your transgressions which you have committed and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! For why will you die, O house of Israel? (Ezekiel 18:31).

I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances (Ezekiel 36:27).

“I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,” declares the Lord (Ezekiel 37:14).

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18).

But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20).

Jesus answered, “ Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5).

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit ( John 3:6).

The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit (John 3:8).

But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers ( John 4:23).

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life ( John 6:63).

And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit” ( John 20:22).

Who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 1:4).

But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God (Romans 2:29).

But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter (Romans 7:6).

So that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit (Romans 8:4).

For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit (Romans 8:5).

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace (Romans 8:6).

However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him (Romans 8:9).

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you (Romans 8:11).

For if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live (Romans 8:13).

Being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts (2 Corinthians 3:3).

Who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life (2 Corinthians 3:6).

Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? (Ga lat i a n s 3:3).

Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” (Galatians 4:6).

But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also (Galatians 4:29).

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).

For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please (Galatians 5:17).

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law (Galatians 5:18).

For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life (Galatians 6:8).

In whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit (Ephesians 2:22).

Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you (2 Timothy 1:14).

He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5).

Seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow (1 Peter 1:11).

For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit (1 Peter 3:18).

By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit (1 John 4:13).

The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us (1 John 3:24).

For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God (1 Peter 4:6).

Spirit upon You and Filling You

Then I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take of the Spirit who is upon you, and will put Him upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you will not bear it all alone (Numbers 11:17).

Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him; and He took of the Spirit who was upon him and placed Him upon the seventy elders. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do it again (Numbers 11:25).

But two men had remained in the camp; the name of one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them (now they were among those who had been registered, but had not gone out to the tent), and they prophesied in the camp (Numbers 11:26).

But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!” (Numbers 11:29).

Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho opposite him saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him (2 Kings 2:15).

Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who was the chief of the thirty, and he said… (1 Chronicles 12:18).

Now the Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded (2 Chronicles 15:1).

Then in the midst of the assembly the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite of the sons of Asaph (2 Chronicles 20:14).

Then the Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people and said to them, “Thus God has said, ‘Why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord and do not prosper? Because you have forsaken the Lord, He has also forsaken you’” (2 Chronicles 24:20).

Turn to my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you (Proverbs 1:23).

So the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon; and he blew a trumpet, and the Abiezrites were called together to follow him (Judges 6:34).

Until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field is considered as a forest (Isaiah 32:15).

“As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says the Lord, “ from now and forever” (Isaiah 59:21).

As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire ( Mat t hew 3:11).

After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him (Matthew 3:16).

I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit (Mark 1:8).

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:41).

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied… (Luke 1:67).

And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him (Luke 2:25).

John answered and said to them all, “As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire (Luke 3:16).

And the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased” (Luke 3:22).

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness (Luke 4:1).

I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, “He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit” ( John 1:33).

For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now (Acts 1:5).

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance (Acts 2:4).

“And it shall be in the last days,” God says, “that I will pour forth My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams” (Acts 2:17).

Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear (Acts 2:33).

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them… (Acts 4:8).

And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness (Acts 4:31).

The statement found approval with the whole congregation; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch (Acts 6:5).

But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God (Acts 7:55).

You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message (Acts 10:44).

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).

To another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:9).

This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? (Galatians 3:2).

The Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement (1 John 5:8).

Spirit of Healing

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners (Isaiah 61:1).

As He spoke to me the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet; and I heard Him speaking to me (Ezekiel 2:2).

So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit” (A c t s 9 :17 ).

You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).

I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,” declares the Lord God (Ezekiel 39:29).

It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions (Joel 2:28).

Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days ( Joe l 2: 29).

Spirit of the King

For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17).

And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!’” “ Yes,” says the Spirit, “so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them” (Revelation 14:13).

Spirit of Prayer

I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn (Zechariah 12:10).

Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me (Romans 15:30).

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful (1 Corinthians 14:14).

What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also (1 Corinthians 14:15).

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints (Ephesians 6:18).

The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer (1 Peter 4:7).

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit ( Jude 1:20).

Spirit and Power of Elijah

Spirit of Joy

And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district (Luke 4 :14).

You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit (1 Thessalonians 1:6).

Do not quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19).

Promised Spirit

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him? (Luke 11:13).

Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear (Acts 2:33).

In order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith (G a l at i a n s 3:14).

But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified ( John 7:39).

For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure ( John 3:34).

But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come ( John 16:13).

We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error (1 John 4:6).

This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth (1 John 5:6).

Helper

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you (John 14: 26).

When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me ( John 15:26).

While Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you” (Acts 10:19).

Comforter

So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase (Acts 9 :31).

Gift Giver

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4).

But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good (1 Corinthians 12:7).

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8).

To another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:9).

But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills (1 Corinthians 12:11).

God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will (Hebrews 2:4).

For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 6:4).

Living Water

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, “From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water” ( John 7:38).

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13).

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost (Revelation 22:17).

Seal of the Spirit

Who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge (2 Corinthians 1:22).

In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13).

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30).

Spirit of Glory

How will the ministry of the Spirit fail to be even more with glory? (2 Corinthians 3:8).

If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you (1 Peter 4:14).

Spirit of Hope

For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness (Galatians 5:5).

Sword of the Spirit

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17).

Spirit of Grace

How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? (Hebrews 10:29).

Speaking Spirit

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God (Revelation 2:7).

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death (Revelation 2:11).

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it (Revelation 2:17).

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches (Revelation 2:29; 3:6,13,22).
