Leave a Trail

You've heard the old adage about leaving a trail of bread crumbs to lead you back home. That's what you should be trying to do with prospects. Leave a trail that reminds them of your company and that you want their business. This can be anything with your name and logo on it, from pens to baseball caps, from memo pads to golf balls. The long-term goal is to give reminders and create an outpost in your prospects' minds. If you leave bread crumbs for them, they will eventually find their way back to you.

ACTION ITEM

Find a source for logo and identity items. Buy up a variety of items and get them out on the highways and byways where your prospects operate.

A busy association executive had met with a prospective insurance provider numerous times. He failed to notice that each time this agent called on him, he left a small gift. One day, he looked at the top of his desk and discovered that he had a memo holder, a leather address book, a large desktop calendar, a pen holder, pens, rulers, and moreā€”all with the insurance company's name, logo, and phone number on them. When his current insurance program hit a speed bump and he had to find another vendor, it was easy to decide whom to call. Their name and phone number were everywhere. Not a bad investment for some logo identity items that were left behind.
