COMMENTS: A solid motor cross racer loaded with codes. This game took some heat from the reviewers when it came out. Control of the powerful cycles is not the best around, but if you don’t take your motorcycle games too seriously, this is a solid choice—particularly when racing against a friend on the two-play split screen.

Codes:

Enter the following codes in midrace. Do not pause as you enter these codes.

Disco Color Mode: Press X, Circle, Square, X, X, Triangle, Triangle, Select.

Display Coordinates: Press Down, Up, Left, Up, Down, Right, Right, Down, Select.

Gouraud Cycle: Press Square, Square, X, Triangle, Circle, Square, X, Square, Select.

Paint Trails: Press Triangle, X, Triangle, Square, Square, Triangle, Circle, X, Select.

Techno-Funk Song: Press Left, Up, Right, Right, Left, Down, Down, Right, Select.

View Movie Sequences: Press Circle, X, Square, Circle, Square, Triangle, Triangle, Circle, Select.

Wave Landscape: During game play press Up, Left, Right, Right, Down, Up, Down, Up, Select.

COMMENTS: I don’t know who started the rumor that Jet Moto was a bad game, but I’d like to meet that guy in a dark alley. Jet Moto was a good-selling game, but it got a wholly undeserved reputation as being second rate. Nothing could be further from the truth for this motorcycle-style racer, featuring a choice of 20 bikes, 10 tracks, and 19 competitors. The first Jet Moto was a solid racer with some terrific moves. Jet Moto 2 does not disappoint. This game features 10 tracks (the same number as in the original Jet Moto) and plenty of jumps for those air fiends out there. It also has some real interesting scenery, including odd advertisements. Think of this game as Wave Race on asphalt—or beaches, or swamps, which are exactly what some of the tracks include.

Codes:

Access to All Tracks: These steps (I know, there are a lot of them) will enable you to race all tracks, even the alternate ones and remember, when leaving the Options screen, exit by pressing Start or highlighting Exit. If you use the Triangle button to exit, the changes will not work.

1. Go to the Options screen and set the game for master difficulty and five laps per race.

2. Enter X for Li’l Dave at the Single Player Select screen.

3. Go back to the Title screen and press Up, Down, Left, Right, Right 2, Right 1, Left 2, Left 1 within four seconds.

4. Go back to the Options screen and set three laps per race.

5. Head for the Select screen and press X on Wild Ride at the 1-player select.

6. Go to the Title screen and enter: Up, Left, Down, Right, Square, Right 2, Circle, Left 2 within four seconds.

7. Go to the Options screen and set amateur difficulty and turbos to off positions.

8. Go to the Select screen and enter X on Bomber at the 1-player mode.

9. Go back to the Title screen and enter Up, Down, Left, Right, Up, Down, Left, Right within four seconds.

10. And then go back to the Options screen and enter professional difficulty and turbos.

11. Then go back to the Title screen and enter Right 2, Right 1, Left 1, Left 2, Right 2, Right 1, Left 1, Left 2 within four seconds.

Lock in Turbo Speed: Keep holding the Triangle down after running out of turbos to keep the speed over 100 mph.

Race as Enigma: Go to the Options screen and set for master difficulty and six laps per race. Then go to the Title screen and enter: Left, Square, Down, Triangle, Right, Circle, Left 1, Right 1 within four seconds. You can also race as Enigma by completing all 10 tracks at the master difficulty level. Doing so will gain you the bonus ability to access the insane difficulty level.

COMMENTS: Moto Racer 2 is a darned good game. The graphics quality is close, very close to what you’ll find on a PC. The motorcycles are realistic, as are the physics of the game. But here’s the best part, and it’s so simple you wonder why somebody didn’t think of it before: The game has a build-your-own-course feature. What’s more, you can store up to 50 “homemade” courses on a single memory card. This two-player delight features 32 already-built tracks and a host of racing conditions, like rain and night. There are also vertical and horizontal view options.

Tips And Strategy:

Oooops! Keep away from the shoulder when in sim mode. An inch over the track line and down you go. No oooops! In arcade mode you can bounce off buildings and stay upright. Only do pop wheelies on straightaways. Steering is difficult at best when your front wheel is off the ground. Again, this is part of the realistic physics of the game.

Codes:

All Tracks: Enter your name as CDNALSI. When it asks for your name again, enter ABRAHAM LINCOLN, LUKE SKYWALKER, JAMES T. KIRK, or your real name. Actually, it doesn’t really matter what name you enter the second time. I just like the idea of Abe Lincoln playing Moto Racer.

Bonus Track: Go to the main menu and enter Right 1, Right 2, Up, Left, Triangle.

Faster Bikes: At the main menu enter: Up, Up, Up, Right, Left, Triangle, X.

Reverse the Tracks: Enter your name as CESREVER. When it asks for your name a second time, enter RALPH WALDO EMERSON or ABE LINCOLN. Either one is funny. But if you want to be a spoiled sport, then enter your real name the second time.

Smaller Bikes: Enter your name as CTEKCOP. When it asks for your name again, you can put whatever you want, even ABE LINCOLN.

COMMENTS: The main thing about this game is that it’s an excellent Supercross trainer. Some people may take offense at that, but the two-mode game offers beginning dirt bikers an excellent introduction to the video game sport. I’ll tell you why.

Simply put, it’s those two simple modes of play. The Racing Mode lets you compete on a ton of tracks working your way through a season, while the Freestyle Mode lets you perfect your skills. For me, the Freestyle play in this game is really the star. You can take your time in this mode to perfect your skills before moving on to tougher challenges … and you can do it without feeling like a geek who needs training wheels.

Cheats:

Before I go directly into the cheats, let me say that these are very important cheats for the novice motorcross rider. Notice that a lot of the cheats also help you score higher in the game. Some of them, like the gravity on different planet cheats, are just for fun, but a lot of the other cheats will help you practice to get good at the game. So I’ve broken the cheats up into three basic types: Educational, Fun, and Planet.
