GAME NAME: SAN FRANCISCO RUSH: EXTREME RACING

THEME: Fantasy city racing
PLAYERS: 1 to 2
DEVELOPED BY: Climax
PUBLISHED BY: Midway
COMMENTS: Eight different really fast cars and a city filled with hills. What more is there to say? Experienced players will notice some differences between the PlayStation version and the arcade version of this racer. Mostly these differences are in the way cars handle (and crash). Some people like it and some don’t like it. It comes down to personal choice.
Codes:
Your choice of vehicles increase as you find the keys along the way, but there are some codes that access new cars immediately. Please note, to enable these codes you have to keep the key or keys from the Car Select screen down for the entire time the track level is loading.
Buggy: Hold Right 1 until the race begins.
Change Color: Hold Square until the race begins.
Mini Truck: Hold Left 1 until the race begins.
Rally Car: Hold Right 1 and Right 2 until race begins.

COMMENTS: If you remember the Speed Racer cartoon from when you were a kid, well, then you’re really, really old. I mean, really old! Stop playing video games and get yourself fitted for a walker.
Okay, seriously, if you’re a fan of the classic cartoon, then you’ll either hate this game or love it. You’ll hate it because it has none of the neat auto stuff of the somewhat cheesy original cartoon. This is strictly a stripped-down version of the Mach V. The designers, I guess, didn’t go for all those cool options. Neither, apparently, did the bad guys. On the other hand, if you just watch Speed on cable, then you might get a small thrill out of this fairly straightforward game.

Access All Cars: Go to the Car Select screen. Hold Right 1, Right 2, Left 1, Left 2, Select, Down, Triangle. Select a car by pressing Left or Right.

COMMENTS: Serious gamers will remember this game as a Japanese cartoon racer that was a breakthrough in practically every way. Unfortunately, the game never made it to the United States, but this slightly trimmed version crossed the ocean. Not that this game isn’t good—real good—it’s just that the Japanese version was somewhat better. That’s what serious gamers say, anyway.
As the name would suggest, Motor Toon Grand Prix is a cartoon racer. That is to say, if you like Mario Kart, Diddy Kong, Ridge Racer, and others, then you’ll love this one-player game. Ten tracks and a choice of eight cars give plenty of variety. There are also plenty of tricks and codes to work on. For instance, winning in normal mode opens hidden vehicles and tracks. When winning in hard mode, you get a minigame.
Codes, Tips, and Tricks:
Ghost Races: Hold Right 1 as you select the Memory Card option. Then select the Load Ghost option.
Perfect Run: Press Right 1 as you select the Relay Video option.
Punch It: Hold down the reverse button when you accelerate and the car will hit top speed almost instantly.
Turbo Start: Press X when the light turns yellow for a faster start.
Secret Codes:
Right off the line, you have to get access to the secret options. You do this by going to the Options screen and holding down: Left 1, Left 2, Right 1, Right 2 while making your selections. You’ll get a host of new vehicles and attributes.
Now you’re in debug mode. You’ll see a four-digit number on the screen—right down there in the corner. You have to enter your codes in hexadecimal style. Right 1 is equal to 1; Right 2 is equal to 2; Left 1 is equal to 4; and Left 2 is equal to 8. Got it? Good. You simply add numbers together, so if Right 1 equals 1 and Right 2 equals 2, then Right 1 and Right 2 equals 3. Since you can’t fit two digits in one space, like 10, after 9 the code uses the alphabet, so A is 10, B is 11, etc. Computer guys do this so they can put in more code with fewer buttons. Think about it. Four buttons is all you need to enter all number digits and the entire alphabet. Remember, to activate the codes, you have to press Select after entering the numbers. Got it? Good.

GAME NAME: BOMBERMAN FANTASY RACE
ESRB RATING: E for Everyone. Content suitable for those 6 years or older.
THEME: Race game based on popular video game character.
PLAYERS: 1 to 4
DEVELOPED BY: Hudson Soft
PUBLISHED BY: Atlus Software
COMMENTS: Bomberman is one of the most played and playable game themes out there. He’s the guy with the bombs, and players can’t get enough of him. Experts say the PlayStation versions are better than even the N 64, but you be the judge. This is a Mario Kart kind of racing game. That means it’s cute, but it’s also competitive. You can win purses in the race to build your own speedster as you go. There are 12 different vehicles and seven tracks. The action for two-player mode is split screen.
Tips:
Double Your Money: Save a game twice in different slots. Then use the money transfer function to move the money from one slot to the other.
Mirror Tracks: To access the mirror tracks, finish in first place on all tracks. Easy, right? Then press Right at the Track Selection screen.
View Ending Sequence: To see the ending sequence, you have to complete all mirror tracks. Then go back and press Select at the Title screen.
