Remember learning about the periodic table as a kid? Let’s revisit it. What’s an experience you’ve had that involves the element of calcium (Ca)? It could be anything from how you chipped a tooth to the first time you ate ice cream.
5-MINUTE PROMPT:
Chlorine (Cl) is an element most known for keeping swimming pools nice and blue. Think of a time you took a dip. Write a poem about the experience using rich visual imagery. Consider the colors, shapes, sizes, and textures of the experience.
10-MINUTE PROMPT:
Without this element there would be no balloon animals! Yup, I’m talking about helium (He). Think of an event you attended that used balloons in some way. Using that event as a backdrop, write a scene from a mystery novel. Be sure to include a loud pop.
20-MINUTE PROMPT:
Sodium (Na) is one of two elements that make up salt, which can be found in our bodies, our oceans, our meals, and sometimes—if we’ve had a long day—our bathwater. Think of an experience where salt played a crucial factor. Write an essay titled “Salted” for a literary journal.
