HOMEMADE ISOTONIC DRINK

Isotonic drinks are formulated to provide minerals (electrolytes) to replace quickly those we lose through sweat, and a boost of carbohydrate to replenish depleted glycogen stores. This incredibly straightforward and tasty homemade sports drink is just as effective as the commercial variety, containing minerals such as sodium, calcium, potassium, iron, manganese and magnesium, as well as vitamins C and B6. And it’s a whole lot cheaper!

INGREDIENTS

250ml unsweetened apple juice

250ml water

Pinch salt (c. fifth of a tsp)

METHOD

1. Measure out 250ml apple juice. Add 250ml water to make a total volume of 500ml.

2. Add a pinch of salt and shake well. Chill in the fridge until required.
