I am on my way to Stefano s office the next day, before catching my flight. After the ambush the other night, I lost my documents in the elevator, luckily, they were saved. I arrive at his office after taking the elevator to his floor. I ask his secretary to let him know I am here but he is out for lunch. I didn t set an appointment since I just needed to collect the documents from him, so I call him to find out if his secretary can hand them over to me.
"Hello," I say once he picks up
"Who is this?" he speaks harshly into the phone.
"It s Andrea, why don t you have my number?"
"I have no use for your number and that s why I don t have it. Why are you calling me?"
"I came to your office to collect my documents."
"They are here with me,"
"Where are you?"
"There is no need for you to come, I will bring them back to the apartment with me after I have lunch."
"I need them now; my flight time has changed."
"Alright, I will text you the address," he says hanging up.
He texts me the address, wasting no time, I find a cab to be on my way over to meet him. I expected to be a little happy that I would be leaving Stefano, but I am not. I don t even know how I feel about the possibility of not seeing him again.
I arrive at the restaurant after a few minutes of driving. I pay the taxi driver and I walk inside the restaurant. I step inside and find Stefano with ease. I walk over to his table to meet him. Collecting the documents as I say goodbye to him before leaving for the airport.
On my way to the airport, we change our route twice because the main road is under construction. We are waiting in traffic at a T-junction, when we are blocked by a car on our left and on our right, the road ahead is blocked.
"That s weird; why are they blocking our way?" I ask Samuel and the other bodyguard who Stefano asked to escort me to the airport.
"I don t know, Ma am," Samuel says to me.
"Press the horn so that they will move," I say to the driver. He does it but the cars in front of us don t budge. "Maybe we should double back and use another road."
The driver is about to that when two cars block our way from doing so. He honks for them to move, but they don t.
"Let me step out and find out what is wrong, Ma am," Samuel says. As he is about to open his door, I stop him.
"Get down!" I shout as I see someone pull out a gun from the car in front of us.
"Stay down, Ma am, don t come up until I tell you it s safe," Samuel says, as he rolls down his window to shoot back.
Bullets are flying from all corners, now I understand why our path was blocked. I try to stand up and shoot back, but Samuel asks me to stay down. He shouts at the driver to get us out of here, but realizes he is dead after shouting for two minutes without a response. He has been shot in the head. Samuel drags the driver out of his seat and takes the wheel. He quickly starts the car, it s difficult for him to drive out, thank God for us our car is bigger than theirs. Samuel forces the car in reverse, taking a sharp left but that doesn t solve our problem.
The cars follow us, Samuel is driving, so he can t shoot back. I quickly send a text to Stefano to let him know what is happening before pulling the left window down. I take out my gun, and shoot at the cars behind us when I get a chance.
"Ma am, please, stay down, I can t have anything happening to you."
"I know, Samuel, but the only way we can walk out of this alive is if one of us drives and the other shoots," I say while I try to target the tires. I shoot twice, but I miss, the third time, I hit the tire. The car immediately going up in flames. One down, three more to go. I am reloading my gun when bullets are fired at me from my right. Thank God for bulletproof windows, I am unscathed. I would have been gone the minute they fired. As they speed up beside us, Samuel is shot, losing control of the car.
"Oh my God, Samuel, are you okay?" I ask, realizing he is been shot and is in pain.
"I am fine don t worry about me," he says, gritting his teeth to hide the pain.
"This will help stop the bleeding a little," I say using my scarf to tie his wound.
"Thank you, Ma am."
After wrapping his wound, I pick up my gun making my target the man who shot Samuel. I roll my window down just enough to get my gun out. I get his forehead in sight and take my shot. The bullet goes through his head, and a smile graces my lips. After shooting the driver in the head, the car loses control killing those remaining left inside. As another car comes up beside us, I shoot the tires watching as it goes up in flames. Looking around for the fourth car, I can t seem to find it anywhere.
"Samuel, have you seen the last car."
"Look ahead, ma am."
I look in front of me, and I see a car parked, not moving as Samuel and I get closer. They must be the ones in front. I shoot at the car as we get closer, but I am a little too far away. Samuel accelerates, driving into the car. I don t think that was the smartest thing, as it causes our engine to die on impact. I step out of the car, and I have barely moved when I hear the click of guns, knowing they are pointed at my head. Looking around me, I see five men with guns pointed at me.
"You are quite the shooter, Baby Girl," one of them says to me.
"It is good, you know," I say, struggling with the man that is trying to tie my hands. Hearing someone grunt in pain, I turn around to find one of them pressing his finger into Samuel s wound. "Leave him alone," I shout at the man doing it.
"And if I don t, what are you going to do, Princess?" He says, smiling, showing off his ugly teeth.
"I will…" I don t get to finish my statement when bullets are suddenly fired. Turning around to find out who is shooting, I have never been happier in my life to see him. The hold on my hands loosens, I use this opportunity to quickly run towards Samuel to help him.
Stefano, shoots at the men who were holding me and the one who was torturing Samuel. He is an excellent shooter. Samuel and I are without a scratch, though we were standing close to the bad guys. A car pulls up in front of me, and a smile graces my face. I have never been so happy to see him! Stefano gets out, helping me put Samuel in the car before getting us away from there.
Stefano drives as fast as he can, Samuel is losing a lot of blood. We get to the apartment in a record of time. He gets some men to take Samuel somewhere to be treated while he and I take the elevator to his apartment. Once we arrive, Stefano doesn t sit down for even a minute, he looks deep in thought as he paces the living room floor. I am wondering what he is thinking so I ask.
"What are you thinking about?" I ask, curious to know.
"Why were you attacked?" Stefano asks, as I think about the question.
"That is a good question, why was I attacked?" I ask, surprised. This question is of great importance, the Intel Stefano has garnered so far, points to him as the target. It doesn t make sense that I was attacked on my way to the airport. I am sure it was the Kazan gang; I saw the tattoos on their body with the symbol of the gang as Stefano described to me the other night.
"You see, even you can t seem to answer that question,"
"Maybe they thought I was your sister," I suggest, searching for a reasonable answer to why I was attacked.
"That s possible but how did they know you were going to the airport? You only decided to travel last night."
"I do not know, do you think someone betrayed you.
"That s not possible no one knew you were going except your family and me."
"Do you think we might have been wrong about who the attack was meant for?"
"That is not possible because every lead I have points at the Kazan gang and your family has no business with them."
"That s true, so why was I attacked today?"
"I don t know, but whatever the reason is, I will find out," Stefano says walking out of the room, leaving me with thoughts and worries of my own.
