But if you look for the Lord your God when you are among those nations, you will find him whenever you search for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deuteronomy 4:29
Do you find it hard to connect with God? Hard to hear his voice? Don’t worry, this is to be expected. God wants to see how much energy you’re gonna put into finding him and getting to know him. He’s interested in the chase. So don’t give up just because you’ve given quiet time a shot and gotten nothing from it. You’ve got to prove to God that you are devoted to knowing him, and that takes time and persistence.
God promises you that you will find him, but he makes the point that it will take energy—in fact, all the energy your heart has to give. Have you run after God with all your heart? Or is part of your heart somewhere else? It takes time to get your heart to concentrate, so don’t give up when it doesn’t focus immediately. You have to keep taking its hand and bringing it back to him.
A lot of people just go to God for direction: “Which way is best for me?” But God is more concerned with you knowing him than he is with getting you what you want and where you want to go. So if you’re having trouble hearing him, don’t give up. Just trust that if you are persistent in wanting to know him, you will find him.
