You may be wondering, “How can we recognize that the Lord didn’t speak this message?”

Deuteronomy 18:21

Have you ever been sure that you were doing just what God wanted and then been shut down by a door slammed in your face? Would God tell you to do something that he knew wouldn’t happen? Or was that not the voice of God but your own hopes? What is more possible, that you heard him wrong or that he lied? How do you know when it’s God’s voice and when it’s just your own wishful thinking?

Maybe it just takes time. If what you think you are hearing agrees with Scripture, if you see the doors open to you as you move forward, and if other people actually agree with what you are hearing, then it might just be the voice of God. But what if it’s just mass hysteria or high hopes? How can you really know you are tapped into God? The only answer seems to be to look at his Word. What does his Word command? What does it say for you to do, God Girl? Stick to that and you will be sure to do the will of God. And if for some reason a door that you’ve been knocking on doesn’t open, don’t blame it on the voice of God or the sinfulness of whoever stopped you, but blame it on your inability to always hear the Word of God over your own desires. Don’t beat yourself up over your mistake. Just take note of the sound of your flesh versus the voice of God so that next time you’ll more quickly recognize the difference.
