The fact is, even if you remain silent now, someone else will help and rescue the Jews, but you and your relatives will die. And who knows, you may have gained your royal position for a time like this.

Esther 4:14

A lot of stuff in the Bible can seem contradictory, but just because you can’t conceive of something, that doesn’t make that something impossible. God can allow two opposites to both exist without contradicting each other. Think about free will and God’s hand in your life. Everybody has the free will to do whatever they want. We all make choices on our own, not as God’s puppets but as sinful human beings who have the power to choose between obedience and defiance. But God also says that he controls our destiny (see Exod. 7:3; Rom. 9:10–13). So which is it? Free will or predetermination? It’s both.

Esther and her cousin made decisions and took actions that affected an entire generation of Israelites, but you could also say that God had planned for them to do just that (see Esther 4:14). Whether you think what happens is a result of God’s hand in your life or your own free will, live your life like one who is devoted to his commandments and committed to loving him in all you do. Do this and your life will unfold in the power and grace of God, but reject God’s commands and you’ll find yourself destined to live a life of regret.

God wants to use you to change a generation. He wants you to take risks, to be fearless in defending the defenseless, but your will has to agree with his. As a God Girl you have to know that his purpose for you is clear and what matters most is your daily worship and pursuit of holiness, not your perceived destiny. As you go after God every day, God’s hand in your life will be obvious to everyone.

Faith knows that there is more to life than meets the eye. The human mind can’t easily conceive of free will and predetermination coexisting, but with God anything is possible. Some things you have to have the faith to believe without fully understanding.
