The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10

If you need wisdom, fear God. If you want more understanding about the things in your life, then understand God. The fear of God is the beginning of all righteousness. If you don’t fear his power and his hatred of sin, then you never find salvation. This kind of fear isn’t a kind that makes you run the other way, but it makes you fall to your knees in grief and want only to set things right. The fear of God isn’t a horrible thing; it’s a blessed thing. It leads you to righteousness and wisdom. The more you know who God is, the more you are gonna fear him. Just be careful of making God a “friend” only and forgetting his power, his wrath, and his jealousy. He is not a person to be trifled with but a power beyond compare. He is also a love beyond compare—such a wonderful combination. To have such an amazing power love you so much? Nothing compares.

You got wisdom the first time you feared God, and it keeps on growing as you keep on fearing him and wanting to please him. Just don’t confuse this fear with the fear of evil or of man; it’s not the same thing. That kind of fear puts you under fear’s control, but the fear of God puts you under the loving hand of God. You need to understand the God you fear so that your fear will be a fear of reverence and not a fear of punishment, because as a God Girl saved by the blood of Christ you can be sure that your punishment has been taken by Jesus himself (see 1 John 4:18). What you need to fear is rejecting God, turning your back on him, and failing to honor him in everything you do. That kind of fear will give you strength, hope, and more wisdom than you ever dreamed possible.
