When you look for me, you will find me. When you wholeheartedly seek me, I will let you find me, declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 29:13–14

Does your worship require a day off? Does your devotion need a vacation? The day of rest, also known as the Sabbath, wasn’t designed to give you a break from worship or from doing good. It wasn’t given as a day to sleep in, to overeat, or to play in the sun. It’s not God’s plan for you to take a break from doing good, from worship, or from devotion and Bible study.

As a believer you may often think about how exhausting devoting your life to God can be—so exhausting, in fact, that you need to take a break occasionally. But is that true, ya think? Or could it be a cleverly disguised ruse of the enemy to get you off track and focused on yourself instead of God? Where do you think the believer finds true renewal and rest—in the distractions of this world, or in the presence of God? Can you as a God Girl truly say that devotion to him is so taxing that you need a break? In a true love relationship, the lovers don’t want time away but want more time in each other’s presence.

Do not forsake your first love by claiming that loving him is too tiring, too demanding, and unrewarding. Instead trust him who you have loved. Trust the lover of your soul with your time and attention. If you freely devote yourself to him daily, giving him your very best, surely he will reward your pursuit (see Jer. 29:13).
