You have said, “It’s pointless to serve God. What do we gain if we meet his standards or if we walk around feeling sorry for what we’ve done? So now we call arrogant people blessed. Not only are evildoers encouraged, they even test God and get away with it.”
Malachi 3:14–15
Sometimes it seems pointless to obey God. Whether you do right or wrong, it’s all the same, isn’t it? It’s easy to think so when you’re tired of doing what’s right. But the more you think like this, the more the payoff of sin seems more appealing than obedience. Many famous people claw their way to the top, and we call them blessed. They disobey God’s commands and we envy them. Their success makes it look like their sin goes unpunished, but that’s a lie. They might look successful on the outside, but on the inside they’re empty.
Choosing the right path instead of the easy one is never a mistake. The life of a God Girl is not an easy life. You are going to see other people doing a lot of things that you want to do but can’t. And because of that it’s going to look like they’re getting away with more. But the easy life isn’t the definition of success. God’s Word says you are to find happiness in the trials, not in the easy life. Happiness (or joy) comes from knowing that God’s way is the only way that will bring you permanent joy.
The prophets got on God’s people because of their belief that the world and all its little gods were more valuable than God. They wandered off and got distracted with pretty things, happy things, and hopeful things. They turned away from God’s law and picked up other laws or just made their own, and in the end they suffered. Let their error serve as a warning for your life. Refuse to serve the world, but serve God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. When you do, your life will have all that it needs—in fact, even more than you ever dreamed (see Eph. 3:20).
