Those who want to save their lives will lose them. But those who lose their lives for me will find them.

Matthew 16:25

Don’t try to rewrite the past in your mind by going over and over it again and again. When you start to get all self-conscious about something you did or said or what someone said to you, you start to get introspective. You start looking deep inside and struggling with yourself about what happened. When you do that you get more self-conscious than God-conscious. Pretty soon you start to feel all kinds of self-pity, woe-is-me kind of stuff, and that’s a sin. That way of thinking says, “I don’t deserve this,” and focuses on your lack of what you want instead of the abundance of all God has given you, and that gets you into trouble. When you think about it, it’s an ungrateful heart that majors on self-pity.

The thing you need to do is to get over it. Let other people be who they’re gonna be. Let them think what they’re gonna think, and don’t hold on to the problem as if thinking about it over and over will somehow make it better. When your mind is on Jesus and his Word, that takes the place of self-consciousness. And you’re no longer a victim of your surroundings but a confident and peaceful God Girl who doesn’t let the worries of this world distract her from what really matters.
