I can guarantee that although he doesn’t want to get up to give you anything, he will get up and give you whatever you need because he is your friend and because you were so bold.

Luke 11:8

The Bible is the story of God’s unrelenting love. Over and over again God’s people turned their backs on him. Repeatedly they forgot him. And over and over again he made ways to bring them back. There are gonna be times in your life when you get confused about God. “Does he love me?” “Is he listening?” “Is he even there?” But you can’t let that confusion overwhelm you. You have to get back into the Word of God to find his promises and to be reassured by all the times that he has fulfilled them. He’ll never leave you. And if you feel like he has, then remember the parable Jesus told about the guy who wouldn’t open the door when his friend came by (see Luke 11:5–8). The friend was relentless, he wouldn’t stop knocking, and to get him to stop the guy finally opened the door. Jesus told this story to tell you, “Don’t give up. God is listening, he is there, and your only job is not to give up when everything in you says he’s not gonna come to the door.”

Something beautiful can be found in persistence in relationship to faith. Don’t ever let how you feel at the moment erase the fact that God is always there and always ready to listen. He might not be speaking right now, but that doesn’t mean anything to the one who knows his promises. Just keep on going after him. Keep on knocking, and the door will open up and he will be there.
