A rich man had land that produced good crops. . . . He said, “I know what I’ll do. I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones so that I can store all my grain and goods in them. . . .” But God said to him, “You fool! I will demand your life from you tonight! Now who will get what you’ve accumulated?” That’s how it is when a person has material riches but is not rich in his relationship with God.

Luke 12:16, 18, 20–21

I t’s time to de-accumulate. How much stuff do you own? More than you need? Are there places in your room where you haven’t looked in months, maybe even years? It’s easy to get so wrapped up in things that you don’t even realize how many things you have. How many shoes are enough? How many pairs of jeans? Greed tells you to hold on to things because you might need them one day, but what if someone needs what you have today? If you have things you aren’t using, get rid of them. Give away, sell, or throw out ten things this week.

When you’re free to give away things and to declutter your life, you’re free to be more concerned with things of God than things of this world. Material possessions, the things you own for a short time here on earth, don’t last, and they don’t improve your life for eternity. As a God Girl you can’t let the things of this world become more important to you than doing what God wants. When your stuff becomes too important, that means that stuff may have taken his place in your life. Think about the fact that there are two categories of things in this world: stuff and God. While stuff can be useful for life, it can easily take control of your life and demand your allegiance. When stuff is your obsession, then stuff has to go, because God should be your only obsession. What stuff is crowding out God in your life? What can’t you take your eyes off of? When you find it, get rid of it. Don’t let stuff get in the way of your relationship with God. Unstuff your life today.
