Live in me, and I will live in you.
John 15:4
Jesus commands you to live in him. But how do you do that? What does it mean? How do you live “in” someone? How do you live with anyone who isn’t physically with you? The way you live with Jesus and stay attached to the vine is through your thoughts. That means the more time you spend studying, reading, praying, and thinking of him, the stronger your connection will be. When you find there are times that he slips off your already full plate or you just don’t have the strength to obey, you need to look at your thoughts. How much thought time do you really give to your God? Does he get ten minutes of uninterrupted thought a day? One hour?
Without spending a good amount of time thinking on Jesus, you will not live in him. Sure, you’re busy. You have so many demands on you and so much to do, but without time spent with Jesus, you won’t have the energy it takes to do it all. And you certainly won’t have the power to handle the temptations that come your way every day. The truth is that you never have enough time to not spend time with Jesus. The more you have to do, the more time you need to spend with him. He is your source of strength. He is the one who will make you fruitful and productive. If you are feeling insufficient, then it’s time to check your thought life. Are you living in him or leaving him for other “more important” things? You don’t have the strength to do it all by yourself. You need to live in him in order to get done what you have been given to do.
