I take pleasure in God’s standards in my inner being. However, I see a different standard at work throughout my body. It is at war with the standards my mind sets and tries to take me captive to sin’s standards which still exist throughout my body.

Romans 7:22–23

Has the truth set you free yet? Or is there something in your life that controls you, your emotions, your fear, your worry, and your happiness? The truth is that until you are willing to listen to the truth, you will be a slave to the lies you believe. At some point in your life you gave in to yourself. You yielded to something you desperately wanted, and as a result you became a slave to that thing you wanted. When you are enslaved to your whims, it becomes very hard to see your chains, because after all, you willingly put them on, and you hold the key.

At the point when you gave in to your deep desire or lust for something, you became a slave to that thing. And even though you might hate it now, nothing you do to try to get rid of it will rescue you. You don’t have the strength to free yourself, but there is hope, and it’s found in knowing the truth. You have to honestly look at yourself and the Word of God and find out where you are believing a lie. So if there is something in your life that enslaves you and you want freedom from that, read verses about that topic and discover where your mind is disagreeing with God’s Word. Think about what you believe about that thing, and then search the Word to find out if that is truth or a lie. Freedom requires truth, and the truth will set you free (see John 8:32).
