The person who unites himself with the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
1 Corinthians 6:17
Can you imagine not wanting anything that Jesus doesn’t want? When you surrender your will, you unite it with his, and you don’t want things that he doesn’t want anymore. A life spent on Jesus is a life that doesn’t want anything that would offend him. This way of thinking can become as natural as breathing. The more you love him, the more you want of him. And the more you eat up his Word, the more nothing interests you but what he wants. And then devotion becomes effortless. When your heart is one with him and your soul wants nothing more than to please him, devotion takes on a life of its own.
The life of Jesus is your example. He didn’t want anything but what the Father himself wanted. And he teaches you to want the same thing: “your will be done” (see Matt. 6:10; 26:42). The really successful believer is the believer who can honestly say that she wants God’s will instead of her own. Become one with Jesus, decide you don’t want anything that would offend him, and your life will be less about the struggles you face and more about the peace of the Lord.
