If we receive God’s approval by obeying laws, then Christ’s death was pointless.
Galatians 2:21
No one gets right with God because of how good they are. You get right with God by believing in the resurrection of Christ and by making him Lord of your life. When you say, “God can’t forgive me; I’ve done something too awful” or “I’m just not good enough for God,” you cheapen the cross. You are saying that you are a particularly difficult case and Christ’s death just wasn’t enough for you because your sin needs more work, more effort on your part, for you to get right. But that is absurd. If more work needed to be done to save you, then Christ died for nothing, a pointless death.
You can be certain this isn’t the case. His death was anything but pointless. It was meant for a supreme purpose, and that was to save sinners by taking on their sins. Not one sin sneaked through uncovered; all the sins of his children are forgiven. And you are his child if you believe in him and make him Lord of your life. The God Girl can’t allow her feelings to convince her that her salvation requires more effort than was exerted on the cross.
Once you accept the gift of kindness and grace from God out of love instead of obligation, then you start drawing closer to him. And it is love, leading to obedience, that proves to God, yourself, and everyone around you that you are truly a God Girl. But be certain of this: your love and obedience isn’t what saves you. Christ’s love and obedience is what saves you! What you do as a God Girl doesn’t save; it only proves that you have allowed the Spirit to work in and through you. Don’t count on what you do to save you, but know it will prove you faithful.
