No matter what the situation, I’ve learned the secret of how to live when I’m full or when I’m hungry, when I have too much or when I have too little. I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:12–13
I s there something you are asking God for? A request that you have made with all your heart but haven’t heard peep out of heaven about? When you have passionately asked God to do something but you haven’t seen him make a move toward doing it, you might think he’s not listening. But that’s not the case. Remember, he has a greater purpose in mind than any human.
The thing to remember is that the problem isn’t as important as your relationship with God. What you are asking might be getting in the way of your relationship with him, and he wants you to want him more than you want relief from your problem. In fact, he lets a lot of problems come your way so that you will come to him, trust him, and believe him. And when all you want is a way out of the mess, you can miss the very rock in front of you that will protect you from the waves of the storm. He never promised that the crashing waters would stop—only that you would find peace in the midst of them. If stopping the stress is more important to you than finding God, chances are the stress will keep up until you get your priorities right.
So instead of begging him to do this or that, try telling him that no matter what the situation, no matter what the problem, you will still trust him, search for him, and rest in him. Stop making the problem bigger than God. When you truly trust him, even the biggest storm won’t move you. And the more you trust, the more you will see the storms calm down.
