Don’t forget to show hospitality to believers you don’t know. By doing this some believers have shown hospitality to angels without being aware of it.
Hebrews 13:2
S trangers are strange. You don’t know them, they don’t know you, and who knows what they’re like or what they’ll say if you say hi or, God forbid, start talking to them. Eek! Yep, fear of the unknown can keep you from reaching out to others. You see their need but you fear their presence, so you walk away, and we all end up alone in the crowd. And you fail to do what God says is the greatest thing you could do: love others as yourself.
But guess what? Strangers are around you for a reason. And you’ll never know that reason until you get your eyes off the ground and notice them—but don’t just notice them; invite them into your life. How can you share the love of God with someone you’re afraid to talk to? How can you help when you’re afraid to reach out? You can’t make friends with everyone, obviously, but you can take a risk and reach out to other girls who cross your path on a regular basis, like that girl who sits next to you on the bus but never looks at you, or that neighbor you see at the mailbox but never talk to.
If you want to be a bridge to God for a dying world, you’ve gotta open yourself up and offer kindness and compassion to strangers. This isn’t just a good idea; it’s a command: “Don’t forget to show hospitality to believers you don’t know” (Heb. 13:2). Be willing to trust God and to step out, even though you totally fear people’s response. This life is not about how they’re gonna respond but about how you respond to God’s call to love. Be brave, God Girl, and you will most definitely be rewarded!
