We consider those who endure to be blessed. You have heard about Job’s endurance. You saw that the Lord ended Job’s suffering because the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

James 5:11

Y ou have to face some painful trials in life or your perseverance would never be put to the test. If your life was without pain, then you wouldn’t be brought to your knees where the Father can create something new in you. The prodigal son is a good example of what it means to return home from a life of pain to a Father who is waiting with open arms (see Luke 15:11–32). If you want to return to him, you can’t deny the pain, and you can’t choose to wallow in it, medicate it, or ignore it either. What you need to do is confront it and figure out why God let it in your life and what he wants to change in you to take it away.

See, his changing you is the only thing that can really take the pain away from you. Running from it by focusing on distractions like TV, people, or love only pushes it down inside of you so that it can come back later. Wallowing in it only gives it more strength than it already has by letting it have more impact on your emotions. But letting it speak to you about how God desires for your life to change will help make you a new creation, one who is continually growing closer to the image of Jesus Christ himself. And this will eventually take away the pain completely and replace it with the peace of God that goes beyond anything you can imagine (see Phil. 4:7).
