If we say, “We have a relationship with God” and yet live in the dark, we’re lying. We aren’t being truthful.

1 John 1:6

G race and forgiveness are two powerful gifts from God. They take away your sins as far as the east is from the west. They give you access to the King of Kings so that you can ask him for whatever you need. But grace and forgiveness aren’t cheap. Of course they’re free, but that doesn’t mean they’re cheap. To cheapen grace is to treat it with disrespect by using it as an excuse to sin. Knowing that God will forgive you anything you might ever do can make it easy to decide to just go ahead and disobey since forgiveness is free. But knowing what to do and deliberately choosing not to do it because you know you have God’s grace is insanity. God’s kindness, or grace, is an amazing gift, not a “get out of jail free” card. Sin happens, you fall down, you get back up, and you get forgiveness. But when you deliberately choose to sin because you’re just too tired or lazy, you cheapen grace and treat it with disrespect, and you have to wonder what you really believe about God. Do you serve God or yourself? You can’t serve two masters.

The God Girl doesn’t want an excuse for sin; she wants to run away from sin. Who decides to sin because God is good and he’ll forgive you of anything? The girl who misunderstands or rejects God’s law, that’s who. Even though sin might feel good or have an instant payoff, ultimately it’s destructive. God declares things off-limits for your own good, and choosing sin is not only breaking the law but damaging yourself. The God Girl has to know God’s law and decide that obeying is the best thing she could ever do. Disobedience comes with discipline and even punishment. So decide not to choose sin and to run away from it instead. But also know that if you should fall into sin, you will be forgiven, but if you choose it, you will be disciplined.
