We are confident that God listens to us if we ask for anything that has his approval.
1 John 5:14
What’s more important, getting what you want or getting what you need? It can be really easy to spend all your thoughts and energy on what you want and completely ignore what you need. But God is like a good parent who doesn’t allow their toddler to eat all the candy they want but makes sure they eat good stuff too. He wants to give you what you want, but not to the extent that it will hurt you or your relationship with him.
If you aren’t getting what you want, maybe it’s time to look at your wants and needs. Why do you want what you want? And how might that not be what you need right now? When God says no, it’s because no is the best answer for you in this situation. Discover why. Ask yourself what getting what you want would do to your faith, your emotions, and your self-control. Then ask yourself what not getting it can do for all of those things. For the God Girl, getting God’s best is always best. If there is something you wish you had but can’t seem to get, don’t be fooled: God isn’t to blame; he’s to thank. Maybe you aren’t spiritually prepared for what you are asking for, or maybe what you are asking for wouldn’t be the best for you. Whatever God’s reason, you can trust that what you have right now is all that you need to survive and even to thrive. Trust God with your life. Put it into his hands and rest assured that when you do, he will take perfect care of it.
