Dear Reader,
In Hurricane Heroes in Texas, we visited Galveston, Texas, during the hurricane of 1900. In just one night, raging winds and floods almost destroyed the city. Many people died or were injured, and the city lay in ruins. It was the biggest weather disaster in American history.
We read about the courage and spirit shown by Texans after the storm of 1900 and after Hurricane Harvey in 2017. That made us want to track the facts about this amazing state and its people.
We learned that Texas has a rich history. Texas has been part of six nations—it was even its own country! We also found out what Texas is like today. It has some huge cities with tall buildings. And every year, thousands of people visit the Alamo, where Texans fought and died for freedom in 1836. Let’s travel to Texas to learn all about this great state!
