Epilogue
Moonlight shimmered on the ocean waves as the strains of the orchestra drifted across the beach from the white silk tent that had been erected there. All of their friends and family were inside that tent celebrating Zach and Jenna’s wedding. Champagne, music, laughter, and more than a little merriment at the names of the hors d’oeuvres that were being passed around spilled into the night, reaching the edge of the water where Jenna stood with her brand new husband.
“It’s perfect,” she said. “I can’t believe, after all the complaining you did about this resort, that you wanted to have our wedding here.”
“It kind of grew on me,” he said. “Like a fungus.”
She reached up to touch his face, her new ring sparkling in the moonlight. “Thanks,” she said. “Thanks for a perfect day.”
“I think everyone is having fun,” Zach said, sliding his arms around her waist. He’d looked hot in his white, flowy shirt and loose khakis. And he looked even better with the band of gold around his third finger, telling the world that he was all hers. “I’m just glad you didn’t bolt on me.”
“There was no getaway car this time,” she said. “Plus, I found the right groom.”
“You’re one hundred percent sure? Because we haven’t officially consummated the marriage yet. You could still change your mind.”
“I plan to consummate the hell out of it,” Jenna said, going to her tiptoes to lay a kiss on him. “Just wait.”
“I don’t think we’re the only ones,” Zach said, nodding toward a couple in silhouette a little farther up the beach.
“I think you’re right.” And as they watched, Jenna saw Tommy take Marcy’s hand and bring it to his lips. “I think it was love at first sight.”
“Totally.” But Zach wasn’t looking at Marcy and Tommy. His gaze was on Jenna, making her feel warm wiggly things deep in her belly.
“You know we did everything backward, right?” Jenna said. “First, we went on a honeymoon. Then we became friends.”
“Then lovers,” he said, his eyes flashing.
“And then we broke up. Now, we’re married.”
“Not your typical romance, that’s true,” he said. “But I wouldn’t change anything.”
“Me, neither,” Jenna said. And it was true.
“I’ve got one more surprise for you, though,” he said, pulling an envelope out of his back pocket.
“Another list?” Jenna asked, rolling her eyes.
“Don’t think I’ve forgotten about that bingo card,” he warned. “There are still a couple of squares left.”
They’d arrived at the resort a few days before the rest of the party and partaken of some very couple-y things, several of which had been clothing optional and taken place in the privacy of their bungalow. Zach was a lot more creative that Jenna had ever given him credit for. And he’d brought that bingo card with him. She still wasn’t walking quite right.
“We’re here for two more weeks. I’m sure we can knock off two more measly squares.”
“Absolutely. But this is something different. Something just for you. Open it.”
Jenna unsealed the envelope and started reading the document inside. “You…bought this place?” She looked up at him in wonder. “Planning to raze it to the ground?”
“Never,” he said in an offended tone. “I want it to stay exactly how it is right now.” He kissed her. “But maybe we could make the showers larger.”
“You are crazy,” she said, throwing her arms around him.
“Crazy for you, Jenna. Always for you.”
