Acknowledgments

A book of this sort takes a community of talents, and there are many people to thank. This project would not have been possible without the groundbreaking research of Dr. Johanna Seddon, one of America’s leading experts in the field of age-related macular degeneration.

Seddon, with her staff and collaborators at Tufts University School of Medicine, has conducted seminal nutritional studies of eye diseases over the past 25 years. Thanks to her guidance and research discoveries, this book features ingredients and recipes that are beneficial to eye health. Chip Goehring, president of the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, was also key. He had a concept for the book and set it in motion, always insisting quietly on excellence.

What a pleasure to work with Chip—he made it possible to assemble the stellar team of photographer Jason Houston, designer Hans Teensma, manager Rosalind Torrey, food stylist Catrine Kelty, and assistant Jodi Fijal. We also benefited from data from nutritionist Randi Konikoff Beranbaum, MS, RD, LDN, and the following generous recipe contributions:

Gariepy, Karen J. Westergaard, Mark Torrey, and George and Sydney Torrey. A final thanks to Gary Schiff, who introduced me to Chip, and suspected we’d bond over food, oriental rugs, and the Beatles.
