Kale-Banana Smoothie

There’s a lot shaking in this smoothie—an abundance of nutrients and contrasting flavors, which makes for a worthy drink.

1 cup chopped green kale, stems removed

1 large stalk celery, coarsely chopped

1 ripe banana

½ cup apple juice

¼ cup water

½ cup ice

1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice

1 teaspoon wheat germ (or ground flaxseeds or oat/rice bran)

Combine all the ingredients in a blender and purée until smooth, about 45 to 60 seconds. Chill briefly or serve immediately.
