Introduction: Life-Changing Truths for Your Full and Fast-Paced Days
I don’t know where you are in your journey, but I know this: you are busy. You have a list of twenty-five things to do and time to do about five of them . . . on a good day! I get that. I know what it’s like to rush out the door, mentally ticking off a long “to do” list, hoping your shoes match, sloshing coffee in your to-go mug, and praying the yogurt in your purse doesn’t explode. Exercise? Quiet time? Prayer? How do we fit all of that into our hectic and overwhelming lives?
That’s a challenge I face just like you do. How can we walk through the just-described craziness with Jesus? I know it seems like we really don’t have time for one more thing. But I also know that God’s time is not like ours, and when we give Him our time, He can do more within us in five minutes than if we spent five hours on our own. Jesus said He came that we might have life to the full—and I’m sure He was talking about a different kind of full than what most of us are currently experiencing! But the good news is, just like a moment with the Savior transformed countless lives when He walked on the earth, a moment with Him today can transform us. Yet I often go about my busy day, completely forgetting that peace, perspective, and grace are right within my grasp.
I hope both you and I will learn to find a few quiet minutes each day when we can listen for God to speak to us through His Word. I hope we’ll read the Bible and slowly absorb the words that are meant to bring us life. And in those precious moments, I pray that we will begin a conversation with Jesus that we will continue throughout that day—a conversation that Jesus will use to encourage, guide, and strengthen us. And over time may we find these day-long conversations giving us great peace despite the chaos of life.
It is the desire of my heart that on each page you’ll find truth from God’s Word that will nourish you, sustain you, and remind you that you are not alone. That’s the joy of the body of Christ: we get to do life together. I would love to hear how spending five minutes with Jesus is changing your life!
