15. Enjoy each moment

One of the ultimate objectives of attaining inner simplicity is learning to live happily in the present moment. Keep in mind that life is a continuous succession of present moments. Most of us spend an inordinate number of our moments regretting the past, or fidgeting in the present, or worrying about the future. We miss a lot of life that way.

Worry and regret and being anxious are habits that keep us locked in old patterns. But these habits can be eliminated once we’ve become aware of them.

If you find such habits are getting in the way of being happy, think about what you can do to change them. It sounds simplistic to say it, but you can get into the habit of enjoying your life. Setting up a calender and a box of stars is one way to approach building this habit (#61).

Another way to choose to enjoy each moment is to start taking responsibility for your life (#68). If you’re not happy in your present circumstances, you have no one but yourself to blame. Make whatever changes you need to make so that you are happy.

Going within will automatically bring you to a level of enjoyment of your day-to-day life that you may not have experienced before. Making the conscious effort to enjoy each moment will make your inner quest that much easier.
