90. Chant

Chanting is an ancient and universal practice that has been used in most cultures and in all the major religions of the world as a powerful way to raise consciousness.

This is most effective when done with a group, but chanting can also be done individually to great benefit. Pick an uplifting, soul-expanding word or phrase, in English or any other language, that you respond to.

Sit quietly where you won’t be disturbed, and where you won’t disturb others. Start repeating your word or phrase out loud. Let a rhythm develop with it. Try several rhythms, until you find one you and your chant can flow with. Clap or sway with it if that feels right. Keep at it until you become one with it, thirty or forty minutes, or however long it takes. This is very uplifting.

Change your word or phrase from time to time. Discover the different properties of each. One might make you peaceful, another might make you happy. Another one might raise your energy. Use your journal to keep track of how you respond to each one.

Then, when you need to change your disposition, pull out the appropriate chant.
