There I was, minding my own business, thinking I’d done my authorial duty by his lordship and expecting to move right back to my Bad Heir Day romances. I could hear Leopold St. Didier pacing around in his study, ready to get himself into another happily ever after (for somebody else, alas for St. Didier). Then Lord Julian informed me that he was embarking on his first Yuletide mystery.
“I am not writing deck the halls with hanging felonies,” says me. “No falling bodies at Christmas. I am not that sort of author.”
“No hanging felonies. Word of a gentleman,” replies his lordship, and Hyperia backed him up, so into the sleigh I climbed and off to Caldicott Hall at the holidays I went. The result, A Gentleman Under the Mistletoe, comes out November 1, and actually does have a falling body (sorry—couldn’t resist), but no hanging felonies. To share a slightly less fraught puzzle with Julian and his supporters was great fun, though Julian will be back to deadly peril, social ruin, and clever adversaries with the New Year.
And St. Didier will be back to finding reluctant heirs and imposing happily ever afters on them. Wretched man.
If you’d like to get word of my new releases, discounts, and web store exclusives, my newsletter is the best way to do that. I will never sell, swap, or give away your personal data, and unsubscribing is easy. You can also follow me on Bookbub (pre-order alerts, new release announcements) or stop by my Deals page, which I update around the first of each month. For those who like the occasional Advanced Reader Copy, I usually announce ARC availability on my Sunday blog posts about a month before a book’s retail release. I cannot fulfill every request every time, but I send out a fair number for each new title.
I hope the rest of your year is full of joy and contentment, and lots of great books!
Happy reading!
