SOMETHING NEW

“I’ve got this feeling. It’s like God came down and gave me back my sight and then said, ‘Okay, let’s see what you can do.’ ”

—ADAM KENDALL

Our God is an expert in making us new. As we emerge from our more difficult experiences, we can often recognize His plan shining brighter than before. We are motivated to make a difference. After Adam Kendall regains his sight, a new dream fills his heart. He wants to be a lawyer, a vocation he would never have pursued as a blind man. God gives him the determination to try something new.

As I’ve mentioned, I had the same sensation after brain surgery. For the first time, the world seemed so full of possibilities. I’d never been a writer, unless you count college term papers and thank-you notes. But the overwhelming goodness of God and a life of stories filled my heart. Surviving brain surgery strengthened my faith and my confidence to write.

Resolved health problems have a way of inspiring new endeavors. We dream bigger dreams than before. When we fully realize where we’ve been and where we are now, our determination skyrockets. God takes someone weak and broken and paves a path toward new seasons of inspiration and hope. People can’t help but notice the change.

Adam’s dreams come true when he passes the bar exam. His healing from God fuels his passion to succeed as a lawyer. My passion for writing started after my own new beginning. No matter what we’ve been through, if we stay alert for His leading, God gives each of us the ability to try something new.

He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.
