The coarse consistency of crushed tomatoes provided great body and flavor for our Penne with Chicken and Mushroom Sauce as well as many of our other slow-cooker pasta sauces, though we often combined it with other types of canned tomatoes to achieve the right consistency. We prefer chunky and fresh-tasting Tuttorosso Crushed Tomatoes in Thick Puree with Basil. Muir Glen Organic Crushed Tomatoes with Basil came in a close second in our testing.
