Getting to Know Him

There is no way for us to know what God looks like, but it is important to remember that He is not just a big idea without a face. God has a heart and He wants you to get to know Him. The more you know about God’s character the better your relationship can be.

When you hang out with your friends and get to know them, you begin to talk like them and act like them. It is the same with God. Spending time with Him will make you more like Jesus in how you think and how you act!

Read a few scriptures that help you learn more about who God really is!

God is love (1 John 4:8). He not only loves you, but love is who He is! That means that God cannot do anything mean or hateful. Yes, God can be disappointed and even angry when people do not choose to love Him, but even then His disappointment is because His love is so big that He wants everyone to have it. Every thought He has and every action He does is in love. No one can love like Him, but if you know Him, then His love is in you!

God is patient (2 Peter 3:9). God waits for you to receive Him, He forgives you every time you ask, and He never rushes you! God takes His time to make sure everyone has a chance to know His love!

God is creative (Genesis 1:1). Think about the world and all of the details in it. From the shape of a star to every single different type of tree and animal right down to the texture of your hair, God designed it all!

God is smart (Psalm 33:13-15). Okay, actually God is more than just smart. He knows everything about everything and everybody…because He made it all!

And best of all…God never ever changes (Hebrews 13:8). Everything that is true about who God is today will always be true! You don’t have to worry that one day He may be in a bad mood or may stop loving you. You can relax knowing that He does not change!

Dear God, thank You for helping me get to know You! Help me to remember that You are love, You are smart, You are patient, and You are creative. Thank You for making me like You. And can You help me be even more like You? In Jesus’s name, amen.
