Will you dream with me for a minute? Not like a sleepy dream, but more of a daydream. So you have to stay awake, okay? Think about what you want your life to be like when you get older. Do you have job? A house? A husband? How many children? What color is the front door to your house? What color are the walls? Where do you work? Do you have good friends?
Keep dreaming for as long as you want. It is really fun to picture every detail of your life, and you may even want to write your dreams down to keep them fresh in your mind!
Now, of course you have no way of really making all the things in your dream come true, but it is good to have a vision or a goal for your life. There are always things you can do, even now, to make sure you are headed in the right direction. Some things are good to do no matter what dreams you have, like studying hard and doing your best in school.
But there are also things you can start doing that are more specific to the goals you have in mind. For example, if your dream is to become a doctor, then why not start volunteering at a nursing home? You can read to the patients or take them treats. You may not be able to treat people with medicine, but you can surround yourself with doctors and nurses who know what they are doing, and you can treat people with kindness while you observe. If you want to be a singer or an actress, then you can look for places to practice and audition, like school, church plays, and programs.
As you dream, begin to ask yourself what one thing you can do today to get one step closer to your dream. Before you know it you might just be living your dream! Dreams don’t always come true, but they certainly won’t if you don’t make decisions to follow them.
In Psalm 119:133 we read a prayer that you can pray too: “Direct my footsteps according to your word.” Pray and ask God to help you to have a goal for your life, and make sure you ask Him to guide you in what you do!
Dear God, thank You for giving me such a great imagination to think and dream about what my future could look like. Please give me wisdom as I try to walk toward the plans You have for me. Most of all, direct my steps. In Jesus’s name, amen.
