Have you ever driven a car? Wait, don’t answer that! Let’s try again: Have you ever ridden in a car?
Now that’s more like it!
When you are riding in a car, you will notice yellow lines all over the roads. Some are dashed and some are very thick with no breaks. The lines are there to guide the cars and to keep them from bumping in to each other. Roads would be so confusing if those lines were not there! Can you imagine it? Cars would do whatever they wanted and there would be a lot of accidents. No one would know what they should do or how to stay safe while driving.
The lines on the road do not stop cars from going anywhere, but they do help people get where they are going safely. They are a guide, and they give the drivers boundaries. Yellow lines help drivers know which parts of the road they are supposed to use.
You may not be able to drive a car, but boundaries are very important for you too! The Bible is full of yellow lines and guidelines for your life. God wants to protect you, and following His advice and plans will keep you safe and get you where He wants you to be. His guide, the Bible, is here to help you steer and protect you! God does not want you to crash.
If you want to stay in the lines, you need God’s help. The great thing with God is that He even helps us get back on the road if we’ve wandered off. His grace and forgiveness is like a tow truck that can pull you out of the ditch and back onto the road. Psalm 25:4-5 says, “Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
Dear God, thank You for giving me clear guidelines and direction for my life. I’m so grateful that You care enough about me to help me. If I have veered off the road in some area of my life, like with my friends or some of the choices I make, can You show me how to get back on the road? In Jesus’s name, amen.
