Don’t Pop!

What happens when you blow air into a balloon? It gets bigger and bigger, right? Some balloons can get bigger than others because they can stretch more and hold more air. The air in the balloon pushes and pushes against the inside of the balloon until it just has nowhere else to go. That’s when you hear that loud sound that surprises and scares everyone and then you see pieces of the balloon flying across the room.

Pop!

Have you ever felt like a balloon? Have you ever felt like you had too much inside your head and you had to let it out? You probably do not get full of air, but there are many things that your brain and your heart can get full of. Things like sadness, anger, fear, or even just a lot of questions. Do you keep these things inside or do you have a way to let some of them out?

God wants you to have room in your heart for Him to keep putting more and more of His goodness inside. That means that you have to let some of the other things out in order to make sure you don’t “pop!”

If you ever feel that you are getting too full of bad emotions or feelings, always take time to talk to God about it—as well as a good friend, a parent, a pastor, or someone you can trust. You may not want to talk about how you feel or what you are holding inside, but the Bible says that it is wise to listen to advice. God can use other people around you to help you. “Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise” (Proverbs 19:20).

Is your heart full of bad thoughts or emotions today? Ask God to help you let some things out.

Dear God, sometimes my heart and brain can get so full of things that do not feel good. I know that I can always talk to You, but I know that sometimes I need to talk to someone else. Will You help me talk to someone about how I am feeling? Will You help me know who I can trust to share my feelings with? In Jesus’s name, amen.
