About the cover and endpapers

Michael Redgrave in Fame is the Spur, 1946. Film still. The 1947 British film based on Howard Spring’s novel was directed by Roy Boulting and stars Michael Redgrave, Rosamund John, Bernard Miles, David Tomlinson, Maurice Denham and Kenneth Griffith. “Few writers can give poverty such an air of adventure as Howard Spring, and in the Boulting Brothers he has found the right producer and director... In these days, when British audiences are politically minded, this story of a lad from the slums, who rises to cabinet rank, should have broad appeal.” Variety, 1947.
