Dear Reader,

The story of Joanna Meccord and Jake Barnes is a favorite of mine. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Joanna, loving a man who wouldn’t let himself love her in return. What a cold and lonely existence Jake had mapped out for himself. If he hadn’t learned to see past the mistakes of others and trust God for guidance in his life, there could not have been a happy ending to this story.

God can meet each of us at our point of need. Whether we’re like Jake, well into adult life when he finally realizes God loves him, or more like Joanna, who has been a Christian for years but finds herself going through ups and downs—in any situation, God can meet us there. And when He does, He can make something beautiful of our lives.
