Author’s Note
I’m so thrilled with this, the reissue of my very first published book!
ENSLAVED started off as a 16,000 word story I wrote feverishly over a weekend. I had never before experienced the frenzy of being unable to stop writing and, unfortunately, have not encountered it again. I still can’t believe how enthralled I was, unable to stop until the story was done.
Inspired by the TV show Spartacus, Lucia and Marcus’s story flowed from me effortlessly, and when it was accepted for publication, I couldn’t believe it. I kept it to myself for a whole month, convinced it was a mistake and I was surely imaging it?
In edits, I was asked to expand upon the story already told. When I turned in my revised draft, some 30,000 words had been added, fleshing out Lucia and Marcus and their journey, taking what had been told in flashback and making them fully formed scenes.
I so love this story, the flow of language, the unusual setting. I never thought a story set in Ancient Rome would be my introduction to published author life, but the road never turns where you expect it to.
I hope you enjoy their story, too.
