Chapter 26

Saul had no concept of time or space as he floated on a wave of never ending pain. He knew that he had things to do and humans to watch over, but he could not get past the soul burning fire that rolled through his being. He remembered being attacked from behind by another immortal, but did not know who or why the attack had been launched. He was not even sure when it had happened. Time had no meaning for him at the moment. He knew he must heal himself and do it quickly but he feared his injuries were going to take some time and all of his concentration for a while to come.

This was not the first time Saul had suffered an attack and had to heal himself, but the extent of his injuries this time were more severe, severe enough that he had almost been destroyed.

Acting on instinct, Saul stretched out his wings to their greatest length and closed his eyes. He pulled all of his concentration inside and became quiet and still. Inch by inch he closed his wings until they wrapped around his body, enclosing him a cocoon of warmth, healing light, and power. A few small rays of white light could bee seen escaping from between the impressive feathers, but with one small adjustment of his wings, the rays disappeared trapping in the healing light, and Saul began the healing process.

One final thought was allowed, one final feeling felt, one final promise before he became dormant. Wrath was a terrible thing to behold in an angel, and Saul’s would be unleashed on whoever had done this to him. So, he thought, run and hide if you can. I’m coming, I’m coming soon and I’m coming for you!
