National Parks

Of course, our National Parks are governed by the National Park Service. In Florida, we have 11 National Parks designated and managed by the National Park Service. This includes a National Preserve, two National Seashores, two National Monuments, two National Memorials and one Ecological and Historic Preserve. Some of these are large enough to have camping areas and two of them have park hosts sites but no camping at all. You can check on the current openings at any of these National parks by frequently visiting the Volunteer Clearing House website: http://volunteer.gov

For those of us who are full-time RVers and have our own “self-contained” recreational vehicle we would select the state of “Florida” and the Housing/Amenities of “RV/Trailer Pads”. These listings get updated on a regular basis. If you want to volunteer in South Florida in the Everglades, Big Cypress or even Biscayne Bay your best bet is to begin looking at the end of August. These three, generally, only have live on-site volunteer positions in the late fall and winter time. There are not too many hardy souls who would like to spend the late spring and summer months in this part of Florida, be they visitors or volunteers. So, the park rangers handle most of the cleaning and such during these times of the year. The national parks and forests in northern Florida have more of a “year round” volunteer needs listings.
