4: THE LETTER

image

This is the last will and testament of Anne Elizabeth Harris.

To my darling daughter Mackenzie Anne Harris,

If you are reading this, I’ve passed on from this world to the next. I’m sorry that I’ve left you alone.

I leave to you all my worldly possessions to try and ease this burden my absence has brought. I know it can’t give you family, but maybe this is a way for you to keep me and your father in your heart. This includes my remaining monetary assets, my car, and my house in Salem once owned by your father and me.

I could never bring myself to sell the house. Salem, despite its now-painful memories, was my hometown. It’s the place your father and I grew up together, fell in love, and where you were born. In my absence, a close friend has been tending to it. Don’t let this affect your choice though, it is now yours to do with as you please. Whether you use it or sell it, all I want is to be able to support you, even though I’m not there anymore.

Be warned, my loving and kind daughter, that the world is not as good as you. Be forgiving, but be wary of those who come wearing disguises of knowledge and gentleness; sometimes they only wish to hurt you. The world has dark forces at play.

This world has some gems though, and finding out whom to trust will be one of the greatest challenges you will face in this life. Choose wisely and trust yourself first, my darling.

Love, Your Mother

Anne Elizabeth Harris
