Day 4 Follow Me

Words from the Rock

Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish.

Matthew 4:19 CEV

When Jesus gave this invitation to follow him, he was talking to some fishermen along the Sea of Galilee. They were going about their normal business, which was actually very hard labor, and Jesus paused to tell them that if they would leave their boats and nets, he would teach them to do something much better than fish for bass and perch. He would transform them into men who fished for the souls of men and women.

Now, you’d think those tough, crusty fishermen would’ve been shocked by that crazy-weird invitation, but they weren’t. They stepped away from their boats and the life they knew like it was no big deal. They walked away from what had been their livelihood, and they simply followed Jesus. And everything Jesus promised them eventually came true.

Jesus invites you to follow him in a very similar way. He promises that he has better ways of doing things. He has a better kind of work for you to do. He has something really special and amazing in store . . . if you will just follow him. But sometimes that sounds crazy-weird—like how do you step away from your life and just follow him? Here’s the secret—you don’t have to figure it all out. You simply follow where he leads.

My Prayer

Dear God,

I want to follow you. I want to believe you have a unique plan for me, just as you did for those fishermen. But I know believing that requires a lot of trust on my part. Help me to have that kind of faith.

Amen.

Final Word

I did this as an example so that you should do as I have done for you.

John 13:15 NCV

Stone for the Journey

I choose to follow God wherever he leads.
