Day 5 Miracles

Words from the Rock

Go back and tell . . .

The blind see,

The lame walk,

Lepers are cleansed,

The deaf hear,

The dead are raised,

The wretched of the earth learn that God is on their side.

Is this what you were expecting? Then count yourselves most blessed!

Matthew 11:4–6 Message

Probably the most amazing, mind-blowing, and crowd-gathering part of Jesus’s short but intense ministry was when he performed miracles. And why not? After all, he was God’s Son, and he wanted to get the world’s attention. What better way to get people to sit up and take notice? But that wasn’t his only reason for doing miracles. Otherwise he could’ve done wonders like parting the Sea of Galilee. He could’ve made mountains walk or pigs fly. But Jesus chose to do personal miracles. He touched people with his own two hands, reaching right down to where people lived—and then he made them whole.

That’s because Jesus had enormous compassion for the people he’d come to help—and especially those who were in great need. Rather than wanting to impress or entertain them, he wanted to change their lives. And, naturally, the word got around that something was going on. But think about it. What if you had been blind and Jesus touched you, and you could suddenly see? What would you do? Well, you’d probably run around and see everything you’d been missing, but you’d also tell people. And so Jesus’s plan worked. He performed personal miracles for people, and they performed word-of-mouth advertising for him.

In many ways, it’s not much different today. Jesus comes into your life. He does something amazing, and you want to tell others about it. Okay, maybe he doesn’t raise you from the dead literally, but maybe he gives you a life unlike anything you’ve had before. That’s something to talk about!

My Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for being personal in my life. Just knowing you is a miracle. Show me new ways to tell others about what you’re doing in me.

Amen.

Final Word

The blind will see,

and the ears of the deaf

will be healed.
