Day 4 Miracle Key

Words from the Rock

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

John 14:12–14 NIV

It’s hard to imagine doing the kinds of amazing things Jesus did while he was on earth. For starters, Jesus performed miracles like feeding thousands of hungry people with a few loaves of bread. He restored vision to blind people, healed lame people, and cast out real live demons. He was able to walk on the water in the middle of the sea. He could stop a hurricane with the sound of his voice. He even raised the dead. Seriously, those are some pretty big sandals to try to fill. Yet Jesus tells us we can do even greater things. How is that even possible?

Perhaps we should start with our measuring tools. How do you gauge what’s greater or better or more amazing when it comes to miracles? Don’t you think the blind man (who received his vision) would have argued with the hungry person (who ate the loaves and fishes) that his eyesight miracle was superior? And what about the time Jesus helped Peter to walk on the water instead of drown? Wouldn’t Peter think that was a pretty great miracle?

Maybe miracles are relative. Maybe it’s the miracles each of us needs the most that are the greatest. For instance, what if you really want to tell a friend about how cool it is to have a relationship with God, but you get so nervous that you’re always tongue-tied when you want to bring it up? But let’s say you prayed and asked God to help you, and the next thing you know, you’re sitting there telling your friend all about God. Wouldn’t that seem like a pretty huge miracle?

Jesus is the key that opens the door to a miracle. Why not start asking for him to help you with some miracles in your life? Remember, with God anything is possible.

My Prayer

Dear God,

I want to believe that you can do some amazing miracles in my life. Show me some of the things you want to do, and remind me to ask for your help.

Amen.

Final Word

God began doing a good work in you, and I am sure he will continue it until it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again.
